We flew into San Juan a couple of days early for our Southern Caribbean cruise and stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott, Isla Verde because we wanted to stay on the beach. The room was very nice with a view of the beach. The beach area and pool were wonderful. There was some seaweed in the ocean, but my husband moved away a few yards and enjoyed the ocean. We ate at the outside eating area and the buffets inside. The service was extremely slow at both places. The food was okay, but I expected more taste for the price of the meals. The best part was the complimentary rum punch. We were not within walking distance of other eating places (in my opinion).

After the cruise we stayed one more night at the Holiday Inn Express before our flight home. I feel that it was better value for the money. A beach was within walking distance. We walked to the beach, but did not use it. Their pool was good; we did use it. We walked to Subway for lunch and PJ's Pizzeria for a wonderful supper. The breakfast was complimentary and just as tasty as the other hotel's buffet breakfast. The staff was very accommodating about getting us into our room at 10 am. We enjoyed San Juan. The taxis cost about $20 any where you go. We did go to the large mall of San Juan. I would not want to drive in the traffic. We enjoyed the El Morro fortress and walked around old San Juan. We used Island Marketing for a tour of the Rainforest to get from our hotel to the ship. They were very good.

We enjoyed the Carnival Fascination. Boarding about 5 pm was a breeze. We just walked through to our room after our Rainforest tour. We enjoyed early dining at a table of 10 every night. They were wonderful people. Our servers Jeffery and staff were great. Food was very good. The buffet, pizza, grill (hamburgers) was okay but nothing special.

Cabin Review

Junior Suite (obstructed views)

Cabin OB

Cabin seemed very small. Balcony was small, but good to use. view was only obstructed by one life boat to far right. Mostly it was great. No problems other than size of room.

Location was great, one deck down to pool and Lido buffet, same deck as waterslides. Disembarking for all ports was front on deck 3. Our location was good for that and for the Palace theater.

Safe uses a magnetic card to open and close.

Port Reviews

St. Thomas

We have been to St. Thomas twice before and decided not to take a tour. We walked to the cable car for Paradise Point and rode up there. It was a beautiful sight. About $21 each for the trip. Did a little shopping and returned to the ship.
