Cruise Critic get together at the Outrigger Bar

This was billed as a Wine Country cruise but was really a repositioning cruise with 2 more ports than usual. The extra 2 days were a big draw for us, and the main reason we chose this cruise.

The Ruby was the only ship at the San Pedro Port, so embarkation was a breeze. We were a group of 6 (3 cabins) and arrived a the port at 10:30 am. We were checked in by 10:45 and were called to board (Group A) about 11:50.

The MDR Lunch was great as usual and had a new menu with a few less choices, but the items on the menu were great. The All Inclusive Beverage Package was being pushed very hard and about every 15 minutes or so we were asked if we would like it. This stopped shortly after sail away, although the advertisement signs remained through dinner.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BD

This is a balcony cabin with a larger than normal balcony that is completely covered. This is the last room on the Starboard side of the ship prior to the Aft facing cabins. The balcony is at an angle and has a partial forward view.

The room was in great condition. The new bed was comfortable and the bedding was crisp and clean. The air conditioning unit worked well and kept the room nice and cool as we like it. We did not try the heat settings. The balcony divider can be opened and is connected to A743. The sliding door to the balcony closed and opened easily.

The bathroom was small, as all the "normal" bathrooms are, and had a clingy shower curtain. Water pressure in the shower was great and there was plenty of hot water.

The room was great and added to the enjoyment of our cruise.

Port Reviews

Los Angeles

Very easy embarkation experience.

San Francisco

Pier 27 was a great location. Easy access to Public Transportation. We rented as car and did our own excursions, and saved quite a bit of money. We drove to Muir Woods and then Point Bonita Lighthouse. It was great being in port until late night, as it allowed us to walk around town after dark which is a totally different vibe.

Victoria

Another great port with easy access to Public Transportation. We rented a car and drove to Butchart Gardens and saved a pile of cash as opposed to taking the princess excursion. There were 6 of us so by splitting the car rental, it was really a big savings.
