We are long time Royal Caribbean loyalists and we are never disappointed by them. The Adventure of the Seas and Southern Caribbean itinerary definitely lived up to our expectations and Royal Caribbean's reputation.
We spent the night in San Juan prior to the ship leaving port on Saturday, so we got to enjoy a nice leisurely boarding experience. The port itself wasn't too busy when we went around 1pm - lines weren't too long.
The ship recently went through some refurbishment and got some upgrades, like water slides! The water slides were a great addition and our family really enjoyed them. They were really fun for being on a cruise ship! The appearance of the ship was really very nice. Its a promenade ship, which we really like - a nice area to mill about and check out shops and watch entertainment.
We got a wake view balcony cabin and I'm so glad we did! The RC representative recommended it when we booked and they were totally right. The view was really great! The balcony is a bit bigger than usual and a little more private because one side was a wall and not a shared piece of glass with another cabin. The room itself was pretty standard and a bit dated. The only potential downside was being right over the rudders when pulling into port every morning. We definitely heard/felt it more than in other cabins we've been in, but we tend to get up as soon as the ship docks anyway, so it was a nice wake up call. The kids slept through it, so it was all good.
