Wanted to try Viking ocean cruises because of their high rating. This was a re-positioning cruise, with an interesting and varied itinerary. We booked a pre-cruise trip to Madrid and a post-cruise trip to Oslo. The trips went well but Viking needs to improve on communicating information to it's customers. I did not receive information on the pre-trip until 2 days before departure. They did not tell me that the airport transfers were covered even though I'd purchased my own air. Otherwise, the execution was great. Embarkation and disembarkation went fine. There's always a representative to assist you. The ship is beautiful and the cabins are spacious. The bathrooms are well-sized and efficient. There are so many dining options it takes a few days to figure it all out. The food was delicious and plentiful. Entertainment and activities were fine. Service was exceptional and the staff was great. We missed a port due to inability to dock safely and that was disappointing. It added another day at sea. The ports were interesting but sadly many of them required a long bus ride to get to the points of interest. With only one day in port, that's frustrating. We did not have time to stroll around on our own (10-20 minutes is not sufficient). We did pretty much no shopping as there was no time. If we had an hour to stroll around it was in the afternoon when everything was closed. Viking needs to improve the shore excursion process A LOT. They need to let people select excursions earlier and create a waiting list so they know which excursions are popular and then have enough time to arrange for additional busses, etc. We were not able to go to the Alhambra, had to book other excursions on our own and then had to get on wait lists onboard and not get excursions until the 11th hour. This is not good customer service and creates extra work for them onboard. The pre-cruise process was quite frustrating and we got different answers to the same question. We had to work so hard before the cruise in getting questions answered, booking our own excursions, etc. that it left a bad impression. Thankfully, the experience onboard was significantly better.

Cabin Review

Cabin 7014
We loved our cabin. Location was great for getting around and was super quiet. Would get the same room again.
