Cruised out of Miami in late April, 2017. Embarkation started at 1 pm and was on ship 30 minutes later. I noticed that most passengers in the check in line were not holding USA passports. This is important as you must be comfortable traveling with guests from other countries to enjoy traveling on this ship. I must say the diversity is educational and enlightning.
I literally met passengers from all over the world. Even those who live 90 miles from a battlefront (Eastern Ukraine). The Captain was a delight and had the awesome responsibility of keeping the ship happy and fun. He did a great job. As for the ship, a few thoughts. Yes, you will find that it is hard to find a deck chair near a pool but there were plenty on the decks above the pool so you have to climb some stairs to use the pool. Definitely try the hot tubs in the La Sirene pool area...they are hotter and have more powerful jets for a more relaxing session. I would recommend buying the steam room and sauna package for about $55. Buy it cheaper on the MSC website. It is hard to find but keep scrolling down the package pages and you will get there. The Spa is clean and beautiful and has attendants from Bali.
Definitely attend the Cruise Critic Meet and Mingle party. Long ago, I remember when I personally organized the M and M party on another Cruise line, I bought the munchie platter and begged the ship to send a cruise official to the party. Now, MSC provides free food and free beverages (yes, free booze) and arranges for ship officers to attend. So Cruise critics have some fun.
Comfortable cabin, but balcony view was hampered by the steel framework. This cabin has a firm bed but some passengers had ship bring out bed cushions. You must put your shipcard in the hall wall holder to get lights to work (and to let cabin attendant know you are in the room by way of a small light that comes on above door).
