This trip was choosen because it fell on dates that my son was out for spring break. It was our first cruise and we had a wonderful time! Our ship stewart, Heri, was amazing! always made sure we never went without anything! he was very informative and would sometimes have an answer before i asked the question lol! as others have stated, the ship is dated...but it is also an older ship so that is to be expected. honestly, you should concern yourselves too much with the decor because that should never be a deal breaker for your trip unless its unsanitary. but worrying about the color being pink? thats a bit too much! We had a balcony cabin which was nice to have because the lido deck is always crowded. people will leave a towel in a seat for hours before they actually use it. ive moved a couple of towels because if i notice that you havent been back to your seat in more than an hour, its no longer yours. have some courtesy to others who are there and would like to have a chance to use the lounge chairs. so again the balcony was a great alternative to being on the lido deck. my cabin was also a level below the lido. you need not worry about hearing noise from above. i never noticed once! the food on the lido deck was ok...typical burgers, hotdogs and pizza was pretty much all day. you could also eat at tandoor, which was ok....mongolia wok; they should change the sauce flavors...who wants black bean sauce as a mild sauce for stir fry??? the deli was ok...how can you go wrong with a sandwich...caribean food was ok....bbq was my fave! i did late dining but my logic was that you dont want to have to get back on the ship and go directly dinner. next time i would do early dining...the dining experience takes almost two hours and after a long day, i dont want to have to be waiting for each course and finishing up at 10pm. my servers, Jose (and i forget the other guy's name) were amazing. they always asked how our day was. we danced with them on the elegant nights and if we didnt like something they recommended something better and it was always spot on. i recommend doing the seaday brunch and trying huveros rancheros; you will no be disappointed i promise! the entertainment was wonderful all around! the cruise director, MarQ, was a hit....especially with the ladies it seems. he never seemed to sleep. from 9am until 1am, he hosted assorted shows and events. i dont know how he was able to keep up but job well done sir! Overall, the service on the ship was great. the staff definitely handle themselves very professionally and i would love to do another carnival cruise before the year is out. the ports are cool as well. it was just a little annoying to see tip jars everywhere. people pay alot of money for these excursions and even buy the same type of souvenirs at each port and you still want a tip??? or maybe its just my thinking...my favorite port was St. Thomas because of the view. it is gorgeous! we went parasailing and it was worth the $100 pp. there was also a charge if you wanted the staff to take pictures during your experience...but of course they had a sign that suggested tips as well.

  • Amber Cove (Puerto Plata)
it was right outside of puerto plata, which isn't the greatest tourist area. We did go ziplining which was about 30 mins away to a nearby resort. the ride there and back was so bumpy because of the unpaved roads so if you have back problems, this excursion is definitely not for you! the zipline course was great! you get to glide across the ocean! our instructors were very funny and did a great job at keeping everyone secure. afterwards they feed you lunch which is also utilized by the people who are staying at the all inclusive resort. you can go on the beach as well. there are two guys there pedaling a monkey around...they take your picture with the monkey and try to force you to purchase the pictures immediately. i planned on buying the pictures because i promised my son i would but they were so pushy about it that i almost changed my mind. around 1230, we boarded the truck and headed back to amber cove. ambeer cove itself is a tourist trap designed by carnival...i would not purchase any duty free items. if you choose to explore puerto plata a little, you can find a way to get cheaper items.

  • Grand Turk
the beach that is situated right off the ship is gorgeous. you can swim with the fishes but the coral in the water is a bit harsh on the feet so wear water shoes.

  • San Juan
it was a typical tour of old san juan. the guide was friendly and informative and gave directions to get back to the ship since we left the tour a little early to walk around.

  • Parasailing
it was awesome! the worse part was trekking about a third of a mile to the dock for the boat, but that was only because it was so hot that day. our instructors were amazing and kept each flight flowing quickly. they have a whole system which works great! they play music while your on the boat riding around waiting for your turn. they charge $35 to take pictures and i have about 100 to choose from! i would definitely book this excursion again
