We choose this cruise for the itinerary. Last cruise we took two summers ago was a Carnival ship comparable in size to Adventure. We were not blown away by any differences in the ships or cruise lines. The food on this ship was pretty bad. The breakfast was the worst. Buffet selection not great and the options for food aside from dining room and buffet was lacking. On Carnival they have Guys Burgers and the Mexican bar in addition to the 24 hour deli. On Royal they only had the promenade 24 hours and the selection was poor. Johnny Rockets is just meh and made me feel sick all day. The main dining room food was exactly the same as Carnival. I wonder if this is a standard on all cruise ships now. Room service selection is better on Royal than on Carnival.
The cabin- It was fine, we had a balcony which is always good to have. Our attendant was nice and they cleaned the room fine. The bathroom and stateroom size was smaller than on the Carnival Glory. The room had a funky smell but it wasn't unbearable. The bed was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. The first night was really bad. We asked for mattress toppers and they had to put at least 6 on for us to get a decent nights sleep. Also the automatic ordering from the TV in the stateroom did not work for room service or ordering shore excursions. The Evian bottles in the room cost about 6.50 and will be charged after you disembark.
Getting on and off the ship was amazing. Seriously quick, painless, and efficient. Every time we had to get on or off it was quick and organized. They definitely have this part of cruising down to a science.
Bed was uncomfortable, had a funky smell, but was cleaned twice a day and attendant was very nice.
We have been here a few times now. I think an excursion would make this port better.
