We decided to try the Silhouette because of the recommendations from several people we have met on other cruise lines. We booked a 7 day Caribbean cruise and headed off to Ft Lauderdale. The ship sailed on Sunday which was nice since there were only two ships in port that day. We parked our car at Park 'N Go and headed over to the ship. We arrived about 12:30 pm and embarkation was smooth and we were on board quickly. We were told that rooms would not be ready until 1:00 pm so we went up to the cafe for lunch. The buffet is nice and has a wide variety of food. You have to get you own drinks which surprised me. On Princess they bring them to you.

After lunch we went down to our room. We had booked an inside room since it had a really great rate. The room was quite large, but there was no couch. All the pictures on line show a couch. I know there is a disclaimer on the pictures, but I was surprised since the room could easily hold a couch. the closet was small, but had dual hanging space as was adequate. The biggest surprise was lack of drawers. Again there is more than enough room in the room for a chest or bank of drawers, but there are only 3. The bath room is good size and well stocked. There is a wall mounted TV that is a smart TV and you have access to menus, room service, your account, movies, etc. This is were we got our first surprise about Celebrity-- Movies cost $15! Even the movies that they show for free in the theater cost $15 if you want to watch them in your room! Internet service is very good, but again costly. $200+ for unlimited and $40 for 24 hours. But you can access it in your room.

We then headed out to explore the ship and went up to see the famous lawn area. Truly breathtaking. Again, if you want to eat in any of the venues around the lawn, bring your cruise card. All are extra charge, some approaching a $100. One of the biggest complaints I had was that there were a lot of extra charges. The one that floored me the most was that to eat at the Tuscan grill was $45 and if you wanted a steak there it was an extra $15! $60 to eat a meal that would cost $29 on Princess, just seemed a bit high to me.
