We chose Norwegian because we wanted to go on a cruise with more of an adult atmosphere and better service than a "party cruise" like Carnival, so our expectations were high. The crew seemed to run the gamut from very experienced to very inexperienced. You never knew at dinner whether you were going to have the "A Team" or the "C Team". Too few bartenders - we would have literally spent more on drinks if it weren't such a long wait at times at the bars and/or if they had more waiters walking around and the pool and lounges getting drinks. Trying to get a drink at the embarkation party was the worst!! Not a great way to start! The crew overall wasn't particularly friendly and overall the crew seemed stretched thin. We *never* saw the cruise director Mark socializing with anyone, although we shouted "Hi Mark" to him three different times when we saw him walking by (never stopped to chat).

The excursions even to just go to the beach were very expensive, and one of our excursions was very disappointing (Tortola's Virgin Gorda Baths and Snorkel). Our cabin steward was wonderful and friendly, although my brother (who was staying in a much more expensive cabin) said he hardly saw his and didn't even know his name. The food overall was very good - Garden Cafe buffet was surprisingly good - although we had a terrible experience in O'Sheehan's where half our party were never brought their dinner until we got up and got the manager involved. We enjoyed the shows - Tim Kaminski was particularly great and his regular show was funnier than the PG-13 one. Ship entertainers Barry the pianist and Leo the guitar player were very enjoyable. The lounges were great too - loved the Spinnaker Lounge and the lounge by Maltings BUT it was hard to find anywhere to sit for a long period of time without some form of loud entertainment being scheduled. We kept having to move - would be nice if there was a *lounge* that was just mostly quiet (there is a game room for playing cards and games and a library but you can't bring any food or drink in - no fun!). For what we paid, we were overall not impressed with this cruise and will look at Royal Caribbean for next time.

Cabin Review

Inside

Cabin IF

We knew our cabin would be very small, but it was fine for what it was - we survived with two adults and a teenager. Our room steward Jose, who was truly a highlight of our cruise, made our cabin experience nicer than what we expected for such an inexpensive room.

Port Reviews

San Juan

We did a self guided walking tour. It was fine. Felt safe walking around.

St. Maarten

We only went shopping, but we enjoyed the shops they had and there is a store like a drug store that sells $2.00 individual beer bottles. After spending most of the day shopping and spending hundreds on jewelry, my husband and I sat in the shade and drank $2.00 beers and watched people walking by. Simple but actually a fun day!
