This was our second family NCL cruise - first being 10 day on brand new Pearl so we new that this ship would not have all the bells and whistles but were pleasantly surprised at how good of shape the Sky is in. It offered a great short family getaway and we found many nice surprises on the trip.

First, embarkation was a breeze, as usual w/ this line. Once on board though we could not go to rooms until 2:00. Food buffets are open and we had our swimsuits w/ us so we could use the pool but would have liked to be able to at least put our carry-ons in the room like other lines let you do while they finish getting them ready. Not that big a deal though.

Dinner in the main dining room the first night, we had party of six and figured we might have to wait for a table - not! The place was empty! We ate in one of the two main dining rooms every evening because of our large group and they were never even close to half full. We usually ended up there between 6:30 & 7:00 too, I guess because of it being a shorter cruise people opted not to eat there? All I know is that on the Pearl we always had to wait/or make a reservation. The food was fine - nothing fabulous but not bad either. The service was pretty good. The bar service all over the ship was very good, much more outgoing and friendly than your regular waiters. We had 2 inside cabins which while they were both clean and had new carpeting and bedding, our cabin unfortunately smelled very smokey from the previous passengers. Our 4 children were in the cabin next to us and lets just say that its a good thing it was only a 4 night trip because the lay-out is less than ideal. they had the two lower beds, one pull-down and a sofa bed that opened up at the foot of the two lower beds making it impossible to get to the bathroom without walking on the sofa-bed. I tried to find out the configuration before securing the reservation and was told that it would be two pull-downs which I was ok with. The Pearl had 3 beds in a row across that worked pretty good. the ship was sold out so I did not bother w/ trying to make changes. And although the cabin steward did make up the room and give us clean towels, we never once saw him/her! that is a first for us in all of our cruises and we have done over 10 now.
