The positives: Very smooth embarkation process! The other passengers were really friendly, my cabin steward did a great job, and the ship was not overcrowded. We never felt like we had to wait for anything. The less than ideal factors: very dated ship (décor was very old, hair dryer was similar to what I had 20 yrs ago), customer service was not very good (crew members seemed to hate their job), the food was not what I expected from Princess (very mediocre), and the gym was tiny.
It could have been my fault for going on an older ship. I just had high expectations for the Princess brand. I should also explain that I've cruised with Royal Caribbean and NCL in the past, and this cruise was almost double the cost. For the life of me, after reviewing the cruise I cannot understand why it was priced so high. C'est la vie. At least I was able to enjoy some quality ocean time and meet some friendly people.
The room steward did a great job making sure I was always taken care of. The bed was comfortable. The TV remote in the room kept malfunctioning (but I didn't really watch that much anyway). The décor was really aged.
We flew in a few days early to enjoy the city. Great place with many fun things to do.
We walked around Long Beach and enjoyed the sights. We also went through the Queen Mary ship. Very interesting!
