I chose this cruise because of the itinerary as it covered many interesting destinations with the opportunity to get off in Beijing for 2 nights to be able to tour independently. The ship was an older ship but was very nice and the friendliness of staff and service was exceptional. We eat in the main dining area most nights an the food was of excellent quality and varied offering great choices each night. We had anytime dining but tended to dine at about 8.30 and sat on Anthony's table with Michael his assistant who always made dinner an excellent experience and arranging for slight changes to the meals to suit our tastes. We were also lucky to have a good wine waiter Leo along with AJ who always kept our glasses flowing. Nothing was too much trouble in the dining room and the staff always took time to talk and even shared some of their napkin folding skills with us.

The ports of call were interesting and getting on and off the ship was good and done as efficiently as possible. The entertainment was excellent and it was good to see so many of the senior officers getting involved in things such as quizzes and table tennis competitions and not just the entertainment staff. The magic show was exceptional and even had a workshop later in the week for those who wanted to know more about the amazing tricks they had seen. The Captain greeted us each morning on the intercom to tell us what type of day it was and was often seen around the ship and would always say hello. Overall my Celebrity Millemium experience was excellent.

The only down part was the lack of facilities for solo passengers. I was travelling with my daughter and son in law and wanted to do some things on my own to give them some private time together unfortunately there was no actual activities for solo cruisers. I think something as simple as having one member of staff allocated to a solo group for about an hour a day would have been good on a previous cruise with Royal Caribbean we used to meet at the dining room at lunch time and the member of staff would be there and arrange for the tables for us all to sit together. This gave us an opportunity of meeting each other and arranging to to and do an activity together if we wished. When I inquired about the lack of facilities for solo cruisers I was told that there was not many solo cruisers on board this in itself should tell Celebrity that they are missing out on a very large market. If they offered more facilities for solo cruisers then I am sure they would find that the number of solo cruisers that sailed with them would go up dramatically because although I really enjoyed my Celebrity experience I would only book again if I was travelling with my daughter and son in law and my next cruise with be with a company that does recognise solo cruisers do need some formal activity to enable them to get together. Apart from that I would just like to say what a pleasant and wonderful experience it was travelling with Celebrity Millennium and how helpful and friendly all the staff where that I encountered. The Captain said it was his staff that made the cruise and I think each and every one of them was a credit to him.

Cabin Review

Inside Stateroom 9

Cabin 09

My cabin was clean and spacious with excellent service received from cabin steward Putu. The cabin was always made up although I never actually seen Putu in the room he always managed to go in and out when I was not around. He greeted me every morning with a friendly chat and always asked about m,y experiences of the day when I as going out for evening meal and he made me feel well looked after.

Port Reviews

Beijing

We got of the ship in Beijing for 2 nights as the ship was docked too far away from Beijing to make it practical to do daily tours as too much time would be spent going from the ship to the destination. The fact that the ship docked in Beijing for 2 nights gave us the ideal opportunity to do an independent tour and stay in a hotel in the centre of Beijing to allow us to see as much as possible while we were there.

Nagasaki

We had a Japanese guide who was a volunteer from the tourist board. He met us at the ship at 10am and left us about 4pm. We firstly went to the local bust depot and we purchased day passes for the buses which we used frequently through the day hopping off and seeing most of the main sites including the Nagasaki Museum the Peace Park Clover Gardens the highest observation point via a chair lift and many other interesting areas. He also took us to a very reasonably priced Tampuri restaurant for lunch where he allowed is to buy him lunch he would not take any payment for his services telling us that our satisfaction was all that he needed, So all in all we packed a lot in a very busy day and also got to experience the local transport with out worrying about getting on the wrong bus.

Taipei (Keelung)

We booked a taxi at the port it was very easy to do and you just told them where you wanted to go how much time you wanted to spend and they agreed a price with you before you went. We had a lovely few hours returning to the ship about 2pm giving us plenty of opportunity to explore the area around the ship including the night market.

Hong Kong

It was great that the ship docked overnight here an we were had one night on board which allowed us to explore the area and get an idea on how to travel about Hong Kong. We had a full day exploring using the public transport system and when we disembarked the next day the service was excellent. There were even people at the taxi rank checking where you were going and then telling the driver where you wished to be taken so the whole procedure was done effortlessly. We stayed in a training hotel on Hong Kong Island which was a bit of a gem it was perfectly situated with a bus stop outside which took us into the centre an we then purchased day passes for the metro and hopped on and off most of the day discovering lots of different places and then got the bus back to our hotel.

Shanghai

Shanghai was an interesting start point for this cruise we stayed for a 1 night pre-cruise stay and found it a vibrant city.
