I had heard horror stories about cruises- everyone's old, there's nothing to do.. so my partner and I decided to try a short one to get our feet wet. We chose a three night cruise from Miami to the Bahamas. We came in a day early to enjoy Miami and had such a nice time on the beach and in town. Splurge for a hotel in Miami or South Beach if you can. (We stayed near the airport and the cost of travel in plus the time we spent getting there was not worth it!) We had drinks at Area 31 in the afternoon and then crossed the bridge. We walked the strip and ate dinner at Mango's, out on the sidewalk. The people & car watching was top notch.

The hotel provided transportation to the cruise line in the morning. We chose to arrive between 10-10:30. We did not board until noon though. (I thought you boarded when you arrived. I didn't realize you just waited until noon. Next time, we will enjoy the city in the morning and arrive closer to noon.) The rooms were not ready until 2, but the bars were open when we got on. We did a quick tour of the top decks and settled in by the pool for some drinking until we could enter our room. We missed the memo that we were supposed to drop our luggage off when we checked in, but there was a guy collecting luggage down in the Captain's Lounge once we boarded. The pool deck was so fun! There was dance music playing and a very fun atmosphere. A band came and played at some point that we weren't crazy about, but they played Caribbean music so I guess it fit the theme. We ate at the buffet for lunch. It's pretty standard- salad bar, sandwiches, some hot dishes. The service is not great. It's not like going to a resort where there are waiters just circling with drinks. It's easier to just go get your own. The pool bars were packed in the late afternoon, so sometimes it was easier to walk to another bar. I had made reservations for that evening in the Crossings. Dinner was good- I ordered a pasta and my partner ordered a chicken dish. In the evening, we partied in the "club" until the wee hours. The dj was great and very entertaining.

In the morning, we got off in Nassau. I wish we had done some further research about what the options were when we got off the boat because we were a little lost. We payed to take the "glass bottom" ferry. Glass bottom is the name of the company. The boat isn't glass bottom. Don't bother, take a taxi. A lot of people walked towards Atlantis. There were excursions available there and you could pay to use their private beach, but we weren't particularly interested in seeing a resort. We wandered around in town for a little while then went to the public beach. The waves were insane and people watching was prime. You could pay $20 to drink from a coconut all afternoon. (We'd had plenty the night before and opted out lol.) After a few hours, we went to "Fish Fry," which is basically a strip of local establishments to try the local cuisines. Do not leave without trying the conch salad, fritters and mac & cheese. Later that evening, we had dinner at the second sit down restaurant. The menu was much the same as the day before. We attended a music performance and played an game show. Look at the daily activities. There are plenty of fun things to do!! The white hot party at the pool deck was in the evening. It was a blast and we drank and danced the night away.

Cabin OJ

I suppose the cabin was standard. They are very small. The bed was comfortable. Upgrading to a window room was nice so we could see what we were doing.
