We enjoyed our cruise on the Solstice. This was our 5th Celebrity cruise since 2011. Overall the ship was great, food was great, service was good in the MDR and in the specialty restaurants. Itinerary was great too.

This was definitely the oldest group of passengers we have ever cruised with. We are just in our 50's and we were probably the youngest 15% of passengers. Just because the cruise was "old" wouldn't normally be a problem but the entertainment on the cruise was definitely meant to cater to people in their 70's and up. The house band played really old music, even big band stuff from the 40's at times (I think..) I wondered who could possibly be so old as to have grown up with music from those era's, they should be in their 100's.

Due to the age of the passengers, by 10 am we had the run of the ship most evenings. The martini bar wasn't even busy most nights. Thankfully we discovered the "silent disco" (everyone has their own headsets and can choose one of three tracks of music). The silent disco was a ton of fun, there were 3 of them. Service was good at the bars due to the lack of clients later on in the evenings. They even had "dialysis at Sea", a little surreal. This is the first cruise we have taken outside of school vacations so I guess it is par for the course. One other advantage of the retirement home atmosphere was the gym was very empty, in fact one time before dinner (usually the busiest time) I was literally the only person working out in the gym, it was great.... I found that some of the "experienced" cruisers were some of the rudest people I have encountered on a cruise ship, they felt they could cut in line I guess because they are entitled somehow. Clearly a small minority but it was very strange to see how ridiculous they acted. If Celebrity doesn't want to go the way of Oldsmobile they really need to focus on a younger demographic.
