As with a previous cruise from Barbados the overall 'getting there' was faultless for us. Our suitcases were taken from Manchester airport and we didn't see them again until they were delivered to our cabin. The Dreamliner aircraft was comfortable and with good entertainment. We arrived into Barbados and were whisked straight to Discovery without the need to go through the airport. Embarkation was quick and easy and so our cruise began...
First impressions of Discovery were that it was big (compared to Celebration). We had our first look around and were impressed with the public areas that we came across. The atrium was quite impressive and it was good to see a proper theatre for the shows. The bar areas also seemed a bit more contemporary to those on Celebration.
We had two cabins during our cruise and both we found to be spacious enough for our needs and had everything we needed including plenty of storage and a bonus of a 'free' safe.
2001 - nice room but incrediably noisy - not from other cabins etc but from banging during the middle of the night. Lots of good storage etc and situated at the end of the corridor.
7007 - another nice room, seemed more spacious than the previous cabin but think that was down to layout rather than size. Again lots of storage and a fairly quiet room. Hedy was a great room steward.
Walked along to Lower Bay. A beautiful beach with very few other cruisers. Lovely little island.
Jumped on a local bus to Nelsons Dockyard, then water taxi to Galleon Beach, then a fairly strenuous terk up the hill to Shirley Heights. What a view !!!
Local bus to Maho and watched a couple of planes land and take off over the beach. More entertaining to watch tourists being blown into the sea! Walked around to Simpson beach which is a huge and glorious beach that was just about deserted.
Back into Philipsburg which was very busy - not our cup of tea !
Local bus and walk to Brimstone Fortress. Great piece of history and stunning views.
Jumped on the loacl safari tour available at the port and had a tour around this beautiful island. 20US$ each for 3 hours which included a visit to a very small rum distillery.
Had a walk into town and around the carenage. Highlight for us was to go to a cricket match at Kensington Oval. Great atmosphere and experience.
Took the loacl bus to Balata Gardens. Beautiful botanical gardens with a canopy walkway. Lovely town with lots of nice public parks etc
Again, jumped on local tour at the port for 25US$ each. We went to all the sights including Trafalgar Falls, sulphur springs and botanical gardens. Very informative guide. Beautiful isalnd but port town Roseau didn't find much to see.
