Decided to book a Viking ocean cruise taking advantage of an attractive promotional offer. I love cruising and have traveled the world on many different cruise lines. River cruising has never appealed to me so this was my first experience with Viking. Overall experience was excellent. Viking targets the 60+ demographic so almost all fellow passengers were mature Americans.
The ship is stunning with a well designed layout offering many public spaces furnished with great attention to detail.
A Viking cruise includes just about everything so hard to rack up a lot of charges on board.
We were fortunate to have lots of sunshine and warm weather during the entire cruise. We ate lunch outside every day either at the back of the ship or by the pool grill. We sat outside every afternoon either on our balcony or by the pool.
We found the included shore excursions to be adequate for the smaller ports on this itinerary. After the tour there was plenty of time to explore on your own. Complimentary shuttles allowed for flexibility to return to the ship. Because it was the beginning of the season we were the only cruise ship in port each day. Many of the cities we visited are quite small so this was a big plus.
The food quality and selection is very good. I used room service for breakfast most mornings. The food arrived hot just as ordered. One morning we ate breakfast in the Restaurant and were disappointed. Other days we ate in the World Cafe which offers a wide selection.
The lunch menu in the World Cafe changes daily with plenty of hot and cold choices. The homemade ice cream is very popular. We enjoyed lunch at the pool grill as well.
We ate dinner in the Restaurant most nights. Very nice selection. Menu changes daily. Many wonderful meals. We tried Manfredi's once, but preferred the Restaurant for dinner. We enjoyed the Chef's Table Asian tasting menu which included Peking duck.
The service throughout the ship is friendly and high quality. We encountered a few minor issues which were immediately addressed and rectified. It's very clear the staff is experienced and well trained to provide outstanding customer service.
I really liked the spa and used it many afternoons. The pool is so relaxing.
There were four guest speakers on board but we never found a topic offered that appealed to us. Would have liked to learn more about the history, culture, economy and politics of the countries visited.
The cruise director Aaron is very talented and performed a one man show one night which was wonderful. We enjoyed the Beatles and Abba shows but felt the other shows could be improved.
We will definitely consider Viking ocean for a future cruise.
Plenty of room for two. Access to the closet is tight with two twin beds. Vanity mirror in the desk is nice. Bed and furniture were very comfortable. Cabin was very quiet.
Enjoyed the panoramic view from the back of the ship, however cabin is a long walk from the stairs and elevators. Cabin is under the infinity pool which provides better protection from the elements.
Cabin stewards kept the room spotless.
Excellent visit to the ruins and museum
