We had heard great things about Norwegian especially the freestyle dining and wanted a cruise that left near where we live in PA. My wife recently retired and I surprised her with this cruise on the day she retired. Leaving out of NY saved airfare but the trip down to the Caribbean was very rough at times. It would have been better to fly to FL and sail from there especially in March. We had a mini-suite for the first time and enjoyed the space in thenbath/shower as well as the larger room.
We had the Ultimate Meal Plan which was for 4 nights at the upgraded fancier restaurants. We had dinner at Cagney's twice and La Cucina once and cancelled the Moderna Brazilian restaurant after finding out after we booked that a $24.95 charge is added to each person. Our dinners in the Grand Pacific and the Magenta were excellent and you could order more than one item in each course. Great selection and a varied menu nightly. Not sure that the fancier restaurants were worth the extra money. Dining freestyle was a pleasure and smart casual attire for the restaurants was fine.
The entertainment was top notch with one major exception...the "Second City" show was ATROCIOUS! We walked out half way through. Very poor attempt at humor. The comedian, Tim Kaminski, was the funnest person we have ever seen!! A special mention for Leo as well...a solo guitar act who was excellent and entertaining. We made sure we saw part or all of his shows in the Magnum Bar area.
Our mini suite was larger than the balcony rooms we usually have stayed in. The full bath/shower was the reason we booked it and it was worth it. Everything was relatively new and very clean and our room steward, Derek, kept it that way throughout the trip. The TV had very few channels other than news and was disappointing. We had an unlimited phone call package but had a very difficult time getting through on our calls. Overall the room was excellent.
