Itinerary - Cuba was fantastic!

The service was by far the worst I have ever experienced on any cruise. Too much to say, but a few points can summarize:

1 - when we entered our cabin & began to put our clothes away, the drawers still had the prior passengers' things in them. And their chocolates & a dirty napkin were on the nightstand. What an awful way to start - STILL waiting for some kind of apology.

A few other comments about this sailing.

I did not mention that the first night, sleep was not to be had. The bed was not put together correctly, so one of us was on a slant and kept sliding into the center of the bed. Corrected the next day & then the bed was quite comfortable.

Our Butler was useless throughout the cruise. Worse than useless, actually. We reported things to the Concierge, but got no action, never even a simple apology. Example about the Butler: On two different nights, before dinner, we had our privacy card out, and the first time, at 8 pm, he called us to see if we were ok. We were taking a nap, relaxing before dinner. We wanted privacy, not him interfering with us. Next time was worse. We had asked if he could book us a reservation at red ginger, which we loved, for either of the next two nights. Having not heard from him by mid afternoon of the next day, we called dining reservations and were told we had a reservation for 830 that evening. At 8pm that evening, the phone rang (again, despite the privacy card being out) and it was our butler telling us we had a res for 830 that evening. A little late, isn't it! He said he did not tell us earlier because our privacy sign was up. We only put our sign out at 6 pm that evening - he had all day to let us know!

We had problems with the Butler/Housekeeping from day 1. As mentioned, the room was not even cleaned properly before arrival. One afternoon we came back to our room, and a dirty dustcloth was on our nightstand. For the last 4 days of the cruise, the bathtub could not be used. They took the stopper away and never replaced it. One of the chairs on the balcony was broken. Fixed when reported, but it was obvious it was broken to anyone who cleaned the balcony - which was not done prior to boarding, but only done after we showed them how dirty the balcony was.

The confusion among the staff was awful.

We were not the only ones who experienced confusion, especially with the Destinations people. They had no idea what was going on! I could understand if it was limited to Cuba, a new experience. But they didn't even know what facilities were available on their own private island! Nor did they know the procedures there. For example, as we were ready to leave for the Island, I asked Destination Services if there would be towels on the Island. I was told that our cabin attendant was to have placed two towels in our cabin the night before. They didn't. So that morning, as we were about to depart the ship, we asked our stewardess for towels. The stewardess told me we should have asked for them the previous day. We told her to bring towels asap, as we wanted to go on the island. When we were on the Island we met others who did not have towels and did not know they needed to bring them from the ship.

Furthermore with respect to the island, we went to the destination desk a couple of days before to book the mangrove tunnel excursion. We were told we did not have to book it in advance - we could just go to the boat & get on at the scheduled time. WRONG! We arrived at the boat & were told it was fully booked, but if we came back a few minutes before the scheduled time we might get on if there were no-shows. We suggested putting our name on a wait list, which the tour operator thought was a good idea. This person had never before thought of using a waitlist. We were able to get on along with one other person. This was his 3rd time trying to get on that trip. After 2 tries his wife gave up so he went alone. He also was told he did not need to book in advance.

When I arrived back on the ship I contacted Dest Services and soon received a phone call from the manager. He argued with me! He told me I was wrong for not knowing I needed to bring towels! He said this was our 3rd stop so I should have known I needed to ask for towels! I pointed out that 2 prior days were in Cuba and there was no need for towels. He further said that it was stated in Currents that we needed to ask for towel. However, I looked at Currents for that day over & over and never saw a notice about towels(from that day forward, there was a notice in Currents to ask for towels). To really make this bizarre, that evening there was a card left on our bed stating that if we wanted towels, we should call the butler for them! A little late!!!

Despite all these little issues, what I found the most negative about this ship was the entertainment. We were very surprised and disappointed that there is absolutely no music anywhere on the ship between 730 and 815. That's crazy. That is a prime time for people to want to go have a drink before dinner & listen to nice music. And there is also no music between 915 and around 1015. Not everyone wants to go to the main show(as evidenced by the many empty seats). The entertainment on this ship is pretty much nonexistent. It's a shame, too, because the band, when they play, is very good. But the shows - I'd rate them as a fair high school level show.

My comment card was read by Oceania and I received an email reply fairly promptly. The reply was ridiculous. It said they were happy that all the issues were resolved on the cruise. No they weren't!

Again - best food at sea - if only the rest could be half as good!
