Sail Date: Jul 2009

The cruise was booked for 7 days on Arcadia cruising Fjords. We are a couple mid 40-50 age group. Booked for a chill out time and scenery locations.

We travelled to Southampton on 31 July 2009 expecting to have plenty of time to spare. Wrong. There were 4 ships ready to disembark at relatively the same timings and it was mayhem on the roads leading to the docks. We queued and crawled with countless other travellers along the roads leading into Southampton for at least 1 1/2 hours. Really weary of the queues by the time we left our car with CPS and handed over the keys to them, we then saw the queues snaking around the reception area with dread. The booking in system was quick, swift and by the time I had spoken to the person booking us in we were all smiles and looking forward to boarding ship. I had read with trepidation of stuffy, tired and british on different reviews so was interested in how we - first timers - would find the Arcadia. We found our cabin on G floor really easily and were happy with our cabin. We had an inside cabin with a window which was reasonably spacious. Minerva our cabin steward introduced himself almost immediately. We made our way up to the Sail Away in the glorious sunshine and sipped our drinks in the crows nest bar. Very happy with our choice.

31 July - Sailed from Southampton in good weather. We were introduced to Meridan Dining and our companion dinner guests in smart casual dress code. Not sure how we would interact with our new companions, (table of 8, late sitting @ 8.30 pm) but were pleased everyone chatted quite easily. So thank you table 104 for being our dinner guests for the next 7 nights. The food was far better than I had anticipated with a good choice. Our waiters and wine waiter were superb, quick, efficient and smiley, whether they served us dinner or we bumped into them on board at other functions. No one was hurried and it was all leisurely. We did try Belvedere dining at other times but we were not impressed it felt more like a cafe experience and for snacks only.

Cabin Review

Quiet location. G01 last cabin before Palladium but totally soundproof. Reasonably spacious. Good value.
