Sail Date: Apr 2009

Our cruise actually left from San Pedro, CA on April lst. We were advised in December of 2008 that this ship was due to go into dry dock in February 2009. When our travel agent checked with Princess 1 week prior to our sailing to see if the repairs had been completed, she advised AT THAT TIME that the ship was going into drydock IMMEDIATELY AFTER our cruise. We were never offered reduction in fare or any other perks to offset this inconveniece. We actually didn't know how much of an inconvenience we were going to have until we sailed. Princess had approximately a dozen extra workers (we saw them greeted on the dock by Princess Officers and taken aboard) for work to begin. By the time we were on our return trip, work was really major. The casino was closed off completely, making it difficult to access both ends of the ship on that deck, railings were removed in some of the elevators, back of ship was roped off with yellow tape and pool was emptied. The lounges in the back of the ship were stacked and wrapped in plastic. When we contacted Princess officials, all they offered us was a $150 per cabin ship board credit on our next cruise. We feel that the inconvenience was on our last trip and they should make an offer to refund some of our money. I had not written a review until now, hoping I would have good news about Princess wanting to keep us as passengers. Our last letter from them stated "Regrettably, we cannot amend this corporate offer, as we must be consistent with our response to this situation in order to fairly address the disappointment of all our passengers." I believe that says it all - too many complaints. So if you are planning a Princess cruise, PLEASE make sure that your ship is not going directly into drydock. As I advised the representative I spoke to, if they would only advise passengers of these repairs and offer them a reduction in their fares for their inconvenience, they would not be having these complaints.
