I like the mid-sized ships and NCL Jewel is a great one in that class. The service is excellent and very friendly. Cabin Steward was fantastic always accommodating us with our needs. Wait staff in the main dining room Tsar's is wonderful and fun. The buffet is great with many options but the best part - there is always some where to sit. Even in the busy morning at port, you can always find a seat. The comic magician is hilarious. The theatre is big and with two shows can accommodate everyone on the ship. The senior staff is very very good. The Hotel director has been on several of our previous cruises and he runs a very tight ship. He was even on the dock helping direct people to their excursions on a busy day. We enjoyed the daily briefings from the Captain. The TV channels run new movies just out the theaters and they also show them on the big screen in the Theatre during the day. The ships dancers and singers are just ok with all that weird gyrating they do. The theatre is impressive with a great sound system and state of the art lighting. The cruise director was fun, friendly and always around. The photo guys took some great photos. We enjoyed the music from various musicians on board, very talented. The Russian cirque performers were very impressive and amazing, so smooth in their delivery and execution. Most of the entertainment is top notch.
We were on the lowest deck we've ever been on and I was worried that it would be a second class cabin. I was surprised to find that it was great! We didn't get second class anything. Our steward was great and the service was exceptional. Everything worked and any problems were quickly resolved.
It's Los Angeles, dirty, too much traffic and smog. Pros: major airport easy transfers to ship.
