As always on HAL, the staff were amazing: good-humored, helpful, considerate, resourceful, and always smiling. BUT our room was like a refrigerator most of the time; leaks around the ship were scary; much of the furniture is shabby. Plus--HAL has stopped offering some time-honored activities, including karaoke and the Marriage Game. Those have not been replaced, so there are fewer things to do. The movies shown were better than on other recent cruises--newer and higher quality (LALA Land, Manchester by the Sea, for example). Probably to save money, the ship stopped in small, unusual ports where there wasn't much to do (e.g., Manta, Ecuador and Manzanillo, Mexico). The onboard enrichment speakers were mostly terrible presenters, though they knew interesting information (or had that information written on their computer so they could read it to us--hardly entertaining). Very much a mixed experience. For me to take this ship again, the itinerary would have to be quite special.
Freezing cold most of the time, despite their attempts to fix the thermostat.
Ok port and ok excursion from HAL
San Diego is our home, so no comment.
Boating on Gatun Lake was terrific. We saw some wildlife--more would have been better.
