This was my second cruise. Both have had the same 7 Night Mexican Riviera itinerary. As a single school teacher I'm tied to the school calendar and have to be very conscience of budget when I plan a cruise. My first cruise was December 2015 on the Crown Princess. I had never had such a relaxing vacation and was determined to cruise again.

On this cruise I traveled with my parents who are in their late 70's and early 80's and require use of wheelchairs at the airport and at the cruise port. They are platinum members so even without the wheelchairs check in and boarding are a breeze. With wheelchairs it is even faster. We never stopped from the time we arrived curb side until we were in our stateroom.

We had a mini suite for the three of us. It's not ideal (I'm 54 and would prefer my own cabin but cannot afford to pay for two people on my teaching salary) but it worked. We had discussed our "rules" for sharing a cabin prior to the trip. I paid for a 1/3 of the total cost so we were equals in the cabin - lol. The mini suite actually worked quite well for us. I was concerned about a lack of outlets but with two TVs (not sure how those are used individually because they're right next to each other) there was an extra outlet on each side. Those worked perfectly for charging all things Apple. I charged my phone at night and my iPad during the day. A dual USB port charger also allowed me to easily keep my Bluetooth headset and FitBit charged. I did have to stand on a chair to reach the outlet but it worked out well.

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MB

Port side, mid-ship mini-suite. No complaints other than the hair dryer. Wish they would get rid of those dryers and provide a real blow dryer.

We took a mini suite because there were three of us traveling. Although I would rather have my own cabin, the cost prohibits that. While there is no privacy in the mini-suite other than the bathroom, it did work out fairly well for us. The extra bed is larger than a twin, smaller than a full. It was comfortable for a hide-a-bed. Of course it still has the metal around the edge so not quite as nice as an actual bed. The bed is easy to stow away in the morning.

The extra space in the sitting area when the bed is stowed is very nice. The two TVs are kind of a joke because you can't watch different shows because they're right next to each other. But then who really watches TV on a cruise? The two TVs would be nice if watching the same show because it could be viewed from both areas.

One thing that would have been very nice is to have a curtain between the sitting area and the beds. It wouldn't be difficult and on some Princess ships it appears they do have this. It would certainly make it a little nicer for those sharing a cabin.

Port Reviews

Los Angeles

It's Los Angeles. . .not much to say. Arrived at LAX on Friday night. Spent the night at hotel near the airport. Private car service took us to the pier. When we returned, we used Princess shuttles back to LAX.

Puerto Vallarta

Took an excursion last time. Puerto Vallarta is my favorite port on this cruise. It's pretty and the port is set up nicely with a bit there to see even if you opt not to take an excursion. On my last cruise my sister and I went to Las Caletas for the day. We had a blast. Would do this excursion again.

Mazatlan

The pier at Mazatlan is a working ship yard with lots of containers. While it is kind of interesting, it's not pretty or tropical - just lots of cement and containers. The "shopping area" accessible by the trams that move passengers from the ship to the tour pick up locations is so-so. It caters to cruise ship passengers and consists of pharmacies, jewelry stores, and souvenir shops.
