Cabin: Concierge Class 2

Just back from 14 days around Asia. Unlike a previous post, our concierge cabin was spotless and our attendant, Bilal, looked after us very well without being intrusive. The concierge (Gianina) was at a desk at the start of our hallway, so we saw her every day at least twice and found her delightful. She even fixed my wife's shoe one evening. We had chosen Concierge as they are larger than standard verandahs on this class of ship. The afternoon canapes were terrible and were delivered whenever the staff felt like it and we cancelled after a few days. Our previous experience on Solstice was that the canapes were quite nice and you had to order them each day and they were left at a set time.We had a few reservations about the condition of the ship due to previous comments. We found it generally in very good order, with some external areas showing its age. Internally, however, the public spaces were as good as you will get. I would think that most of the furniture has been re upholstered fairly recently. A very easy ship to get around, and we used the stairs far more often than on a Solstice class. Liked the salt water pool compared to Solstice class which are fresh water. We had pre booked our Select dining times and ended up on the same table, or next to it, every evening. We thought that the theatre shows started off fairly mediocre, but they did improve towards the end. It would seem that most of the Celebrity entertainers were chosen as dancers first, and singers second. The guest entertainers were also mixed. Some we liked, others were fairly boring. We only did one ship excursion (Hoi An) which actually delivered more than promised. Only problem was the bus aircon was feeble and stopped working coming back. Eventually it was decided to bring another bus, so we waited on the beach at Da Nang for about 15 minutes for it to arrive. No big deal in the end. Service in Martini Bar was excellent. We did upgrade our beverage package on board to Premium, but will only upgrade my wife's next time until I suss out the wine and beer options as I do not think I got value for money. It can be a bit frustrating finding out what options are available for the Premium package (wine especially) as they seem to have different options in different bars. We again enjoyed Tuscan Grill, which we got at 50% off, and thought Ocean Liners a bit over rated. All in all a good cruise, and I bet nobody complained about the sea conditions which were about as flat as you will ever get.

Concierge Class 2

Cabin C2

Was in good order and maintained well. We chose Concierge as they are bigger than standard verandahs on this class. Afternoon canapes were hopeless and we cancelled after a few days as they were not worth having.

Port Reviews

Hong Kong

Celebrity were not keen to elaborate on the free shuttle to two major malls, and also did not inform anyone that one of the malls did not open until 11:00 a.m. so many folk had a wasted trip by arriving before 9:30 or 10:00. Also, there was no money changer at that mall. Quite a few angry cruisers.

Manila

We walked to Intermuros along with quite a few others who clearly did not want to pay the high prices for the ships tours. About a 20 minute walk in the heat.

Singapore

An easy city to explore on your own. The closest MRT station to the Cruise Centre (Marina South Pier) is about a 10-15 minute walk mostly under cover. Just need to know that about 2 out of every three services stop one station short, so you might have to wait about 12 minutes for a train rather than the usual 4-6 minutes. The Gardens at the Bay are also quite close to the terminal but to get there by train you go one stop from Marina South Pier to Marina and change to the Circle Line and go one stop to Bayfront. Taxi would be cheap.
