We chose Liberty of the Seas as an easy cruise from our home in Dallas. We arrived at the port about 10:30 which was a terrible time. Since we were excited to get onboard we had plenty of patience, but it took quite a long time to get to a porter with our luggage. It was a bit exasperating at moments and the rain didn't help anything, but it became clear that we were arriving at the worst possible time. Note to self...arrive later next time.
The porter was great and took our luggage and we headed to lot B for parking. Lot A was clearly marked, but Lot B wasn't...just follow the signs to A and you'll soon find B. We waited about 2 minutes for a van to pick us up and arrived at the terminal without incidence. We had priority embarkation which was wonderful and the process from security to walking the ship was no more than 10 minutes.
We had sailed on the Freedom of the Seas and we weren't surprised that the Liberty felt very similar. Well appointed, beautiful ship.
We did the guarantee and were placed in this room. The only complaint I have is that it never really got cool. It wasn't super hot, just a big muggy. On the first afternoon, when we asked the cabin steward if it would cool off he looked at us and said "I don't know". That's about all we heard from him for 7 days.
My husband thought the view was a little distorted from the porthole. It let in plenty of light and was at the head of the bed. It was a nice view for a small price tag for this trip!
We didn't do an excursion this year. We just wandered the port and had our feet nibbled on by the fish in the tank. It was a fun experience and one we've had fun describing to our friends at home.
The port is cute and full of all the usual shops. We took a tender over about 12:30. We followed the directions to look over the side and if we saw a tender close to go downstairs. We walked into a huge line of people waiting for an afternoon excursion. We went back up to guest services where they had no idea what was going on. They made a couple calls and sent us to the front of the ship to catch another tender. We waited for almost 30 minutes for the tender to let the people off and go through security and then about 12 of us got on the tender. My husband was wearing a name brand hat and we were asked to go downstairs where we would get the best view...and a sell job for a tip. He was a nice guy and they depend on tourism and we got to ride at the front of the tender on a beautiful day. But...wear the generic ballcap if you don't want to get your arm twisted.
Husband got off and wandered around the port. He said they'd made many improvements since we were last there in 2015. All the usual shops.
Hate to say it, but I fail to see the draw to Galveston. I'm sure the rainy weather didn't help. The port is ugly and when you get onboard you feel more like you are in Gary, Indiana than on the Gulf of Mexico. I miss the Port of Houston. Much more appealing and easier to navigate.
