We had a wonderful time on our Viking ocean cruise in the Mediterranean from Rome to Barcelona. The ship was impeccable, the tours were well organized and interesting. Our meals were excellent, except for our dinner at the Chef's Table which we thought the pairings were not well thought out. We made our reservation for the Chef's Table and when seated found out that the main course was Cod paired with a selected wine. Two of the four diners did not like fish so the only substitute was rice & vegetables?? After 2 cruises, my opinion of the Chef's Table is that it is a pretentious way to serve a meal that is really a tasting not a dinner selection for the diners. You can tell that Chef's Table is not as popular as the other restaurant just by looking at how quiet it is at 7PM as compared to Manfredi's or the main Restaurant. The port visits although well organized are not always 'tourist ready'. There were two port visits that were weak only because the port itself is lacking somewhat on what it shows the travelers. The 2 ports that were not up to the high quality of all the other port stops were Naples and Tunis. Naples was just a large 'dirty' city with graffiti de-facing many beautiful old buildings. In my opinion, it was the weakest port visit. Then Tunis Tunisia was just not ready to show off it's worldly sites because of the instability of the country. It had some political interest but too restrictive in it's present condition. All the other ports were great especially Valencia and Barcelona. The port talks and historian talks were helpful and informative. We traveled as 2 couples and thought the cruise was perfect.

Cabin Review

Cabin Deluxe Veranda

We stayed in a Deluxe Veranda that was adequate and had a very nice veranda/balcony. It compares well with other cruise lines. On a prior Viking cruise, we stayed in a penthouse veranda which was better for the extra room. The stewards for both our cruises were excellent and deserved the extra tip we left for them. The bathrooms are well appointed and well serviced.

Valencia

Many wonderful sights in Valencia and a walk through the city center was interesting and fun.
