I chose to cruise once again with Viking because they deliver a quality cruise experience. Having been a Viking River cruiser, I wanted to try one of their ocean cruises and was beyond pleased. A friend of mine from high school (graduating looooong ago) and I, went on this trip, the two of us traveling together since we no longer can do so with husbands. I recommend Viking travel to seniors, both married and single, but not really to families with children. Ladies, do not be reluctant to travel together: Viking will take care of EVERYTHING for you.
The ship holds 930 passengers , in comparison to those with 2,000+ guests, and as a result, it never seemed crowded. At dinner, on the elevator, in the halls, on Viking excursions, at entertainment/activities, we never felt overwhelmed with crowds. We were surprised at the availability of seats and empty elevators or halls. (I must admit, that we are not last-minute people and so were out and about early.) This size ship is perfect.
We took Viking excursions, both included and for-pay. The included ones were good for an over-view of the port and area. At some ports, for a more in-depth look at an area, we opted to use excursions that Viking offered. They were very good: excellent guides and drivers; in-depth information and regional insights; and interesting variety. (As 2 women traveling together, we chose Viking excursions, for this trip, anyway.)
What a beautiful, modern, Scandinavian-designed cabin: open, airy, comfortable, and clean. Special features included a mirror that does not fog up, a floor that can be heated, storage space that is more than adequate, and a veranda that seats 2 comfortably.
Becaused of the inclement weather, we did not leave the ship.
Because of terrible storms, we missed this port.
