Sail Date: May 2016

A group invited us to join them and we were already familiar with the quality of the Viking Experience. But this was above and beyond! This was their inaugural sailing, supposedly to work out the "bugs". But where were the bugs? We didn't see any. The embarkation port was not availble to tour with Viking and we left Istanbul as soon as all were on board, due to safety concerns about the situation in Istanbul at the time. Everthing went like clockwork. But Viking came up with another treat, a call at the port near Troy, which we would not have probably ever toured had this not occured. It was not as "touristy" a stop, very educational, and while we were disappointed about missing Istanbul, it was a worthy substitute.

No kids! Yeah! Love kids, but this is not a cruise for them and the ability to find some quiet space for a nap, or a good book, was most relaxing. Tea in the afternoon was very special, with lovely strings in the background. The spa, fitness center, steam room were top notch, and we both used their facilities daily. Educational topics were raised before each landing, advising us quite well on navigating the upcoming shore adventures. Most excursions were well done, and when we expressed a disappointment about one of them, we were accorded a complete refund when we had not even asked for one. I suspect that guide will not be working for them again.

Our room was state of the art with all we could have desired. If there was a need (I cannot think of one) our steward was always availble with the most cheerful, friendly demeanor. Everything was spotless, and I miss the attentiveness to our comfort. And the food! That was another delight. Our group of 8 cornered the market in the "special dining areas" and they were very accommodating. We could not have asked for more (except dessert!).

Cabin Review

I cannot remember our cabin number, it has been a year! But I can remeber how comfortable we were and how well designed it was. Plenty of storage and room to move about.
