We have a "cousins" get together every year and two years ago we decided to make it special this year. When choosing a cruise we wanted to leave from Melbourne, so we chose This cruise. As an elite Captains circle member I bragged about the service, staff and food on Princess and that it was worth the extra money. Last year my sister was diagnosed with cancer so this trip had added significance for our group of 24. Right from the start, we got off on a bad footing. Not once but many times, members of our group complained about the rudeness and indifference provided by some members (definitely not all) of the passenger service desk. The inability to provide information, inability to say who could provide information and unpreparedness to provide solutions was staggering. We had bad weather and only had a very limited time in Auckland, non of which Princess could be held accountable. However when the weather was known to be rough, outdoor activities were still scheduled, when extra indoor ones should have been. On arrival in Tauranga a review was being undertaken on whether we could get into Gisborne due to the weather. A decision was made that it was not safe and therefore we would stay till midnight in Tauranga. That announcement was made after many ppl had already gone on excursions. The decision should have been made earlier and communicated to all passengers so that they could stay and do extra things in Rotorua instead of racing back by 5:30 and waiting 7 hours for a departure. Anytime dining is a joke as you can't book in between 6:00 and 7:30pm. So you have a very early dinner or a late one or eat in the horizon. My biggest complaint is the photography department. On the first formal night we only had 23/24 of our group because one had a fall due to the rough weather. However one photographer managed to get all of us on the stairs, no closed eyes and all looking the same way. He did a great job. A member of our group went to the photography area to see if he would be doing the stairs again on the second formal night. She was told we would be better off going to the Platium studio and hazing the photos done. No Harte for the sitting, no obligation, no pressure. I went to verify this and asked the cost of the packages. I was told, prices start at $150which is true. I explained how important that these photos would be due to my sisters circumstances. I asked what you would get in the package for $150. I was told, it would depend on the size photos we got. This was a LIE. The best you can get for $150 is an 8 x 10 photo. That's right 1 photo. I found this out around 7pm on the last night. I did not get to speak to the manager until nearly 9:30, by the time everyone went to dinner etc. I was offered a special sitting at that time and I could buy those photos for $25 each, which would have been fine, however we had members ranging in age from 4 to 86. Getting them out of bed and finding another 20 ppl around the ship was not feasible. Had we not been lied to, photos would have been taken the night before and none of the stress would have been suffered. The manager didn't consider we had been lied to because we were told prices started at $150, when I asked why I wasn't told this price was for one photo and not the package I asked about, I did not get an answer. She told me ppl spend up to $3000 on these photos, you don't get to see these prices until you pick the photos that you like. My sister was very distressed as she is well aware we wanted these photos for her. So I bought the photos feeling I had no choice. Do not fall for this con Rooms where entertainment activities were scheduled, some days, didn't have enough room for players. Happy hour in the Wheelhouse bar was standing room only every day. And horror of all horrors, they ran out of a particular brand of beer as well as tomato juice. A number of Entertainment crew are leaving before my next cruise. Kenta will be really missed. This is the first cruise I have ever been disappointed with in terms of the ship. If it had not Vern for our group it would have been a disaster. I have to wonder whether it is the size of the ship or the serious deterioration in the service and communication. I am hoping it is the size Iv the ship, because otherwise we will have to consider how much value there is in free washing and internet
