The boat was new (we were on its fourth sailing, I believe). We had done a Viking River cruise (Mekong River) before and thought it was a solid "middle-class" experience. We had done an Atlantic crossing on the Queen Mary 2 in Princess Class which by comparison was an "upper middle-class" experience. So our expectations were set. While the boat lacked the luxury of the Queen Mary 2 Princess suites, it was far better than we expected. Indeed, the quality of the crew was better than Cunard and Regent Seven Seas. The meals were terrific. The shore excursions were well organized as well as being informative and fun. The itinerary was better than that offered by any other cruise line -- the "Viking Homelands" trip included Norway. None of the other cruise lines included it in their 14 day Baltic/Scandinavian cruises. The rooms were well appointed and comfortable. Rather than relying on Viking, we made our own pre and post cruise hotel arrangements; we preferred a higher class of hotel than what was offered. Still, we would recommend this cruise to anyone looking to explore Scandinavia.
