Norwegian Cruise lines is trying too hard to be in the leagues of much better cruise lines (IMHO) as Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Cruises - achieving little more than a second city status (BTW Second City Comedy troupe was FABULOUS and laugh out loud funny..one of the few highlights on this cruise). Tired of nickel and diming for substandard dining and entertainment. OK, I probably was spoiled by my last cruise on Celebrity where we had a butler, free dining/drink packages, superior dining options (Celebrity had a separate dining room for concierge levels on up), an additional indoor pool, unique drinks and restaurants, etc. NCL should be ashamed of themselves for charging double the rates of most cruise lines for drink packages and offering poorer quality of food at least for the average cruiser. For example: I had Pad Thai that was savory and not sweetened with tamarind as it should be. At the Bamboo restaurant, I had chow fun which should be large flat rice noodles in a savory brown sauce. Instead, this was an overly sweet, gloppy concoction with skinny spaghetti noodles. Seems the kitchen has an issue with noodle dishes. Except for the spaghetti and meat sauce which was decent and tasty, dishes such as linguini and clams (or calamari - in another dish) came in as a congealed cheesy messes. And the house dancers/singers in NCL were sophomoric compared to Broadway caliber performances on Celebrity Cruises. Some singers were even a bit off-key. As for the pros: staff was nice and professional and the room was decent. The House band was also fantastic. All in all a nice cruise, but have been to better ones.
