We have sailed on RC 4 times. We opted for this 12-day cruise to escape from PA winter weather. The negatives - the lifeboat drill was pathetic. Could not hear the instructions, could not see the demonstration. If there had been an emergency where lifeboats were needed, it would have been chaos. Dress code - Other passengers did not adhere to the dress code on board. The result was many were dressed in dirty caps and t-shirts and ill-fitting jeans at dinner. Disgusting. Beds - mattresses are old and sagging. Pillows are lumpy. The tiny library was poorly stocked. Food - poor in the dining room, but good in the Windjammer. The positives - the ambiance on the ship was excellent. The crew were always attentive, cheerful and helpful. Cleanliness was great. Even though the ship is old, the crew kept it sparkling clean. The evening entertainment/productions were good, lots of variety. Movies? Current and good. One additional comment - The ports are all the same; developed by the same company. expect to see the same stores in every port. We enjoyed Barbados because the resident population were welcoming; they seemed to care that we were there. On the other hand, in St. Lucia, for example, the sales personnel were curt and rude. Bottom line - would we sail on the Grandeur again? Yes. Would we recommend it to others? Yes, with the above caveats.

Cabin Review

Large Ocean View Stateroom

Cabin G

Our cabin was mid-ship, centrally located, near the dining room and the theater. The Centrum was just a few steps away. In spite of the music and hub-bub taking place at all hours in the Centrum, our cabin was totally quiet! The only drawback was that it was a connecting cabin and therefore did not have a little sofa - just an arm chair. Lots of storage in this cabin! Sheldon, our steward, was excellent. Beds need upgrade. Towels were ragged and past their prime. Ask for amenities, robe, extra pillows and mattress pad. Room service breakfast food poor. TV programming poor; lacked variety. No music channels.
