We sailed on the Getaway a couple of years ago and said we'd never do it again...but then some friends booked it and asked us to come along so we did. This experience was identical to the last one. NCL is doing a terrible job by adding hundreds of additional cabins at the same time as they shrink the common areas!? The pool size/space on this ship is a joke. They offer no large lounge areas anymore, so they attempt to house their game shows (i.e., Newlywed, etc.) in the atrium which probably holds about 150 people SRO...for a ship that holds about 4000 passengers!? No more outside grilling :-(.
My biggest complaint is that it appears NCL has outfitted this ship exclusively to try and attract the local latino population of Miami. Thinking of a steel drum band playing bad renditions of Jimmy Buffet? Think again...you get a latino band playing music in SPANISH! Two main shows: Million Dollar Quartet (FANTASTIC) and latino dancing (Burn the Floor). On the positive side, we had the drink package and NCL did a great job of making sure you didn't have to wait too long in line to get a drink. Their staff is the absolute best. We enjoy Howl at the Moon and Fat Cats, but there's only a couple of nights we can attend due to the time the shows are on.
Getting on and off the ship is never a problem w/NCL (at least for us it hasn't been), but disembarkation on this cruise was a colossal cluster mess (the worst ever...this is our 20th cruise). Not enough staff providing instructions/information, and we were all confused as to what we were supposed to do and where we were supposed to go. We visited NCL's new Island....it looks better on paper. The beach is on the windward side and the wind was howling w/lots of sea grass pilling up on the shore. The food choices are terrible (think hamburgers and hot dogs). We had a good time on Roatan (Little French Key), Costa Maya (Maya Chan beach) and Cozumel (Bar Hop Tour).
Fairly typical NCL balcony room except the closet faces one side of the bed (pretty tight there) instead of the wall, and the balcony was the smallest we've ever had (maybe 3 feet from door to railing so you barely had space for your legs when you sat in the chair, and whoever was farthest from the door would require your companion to get up and move the chair/table in order for you to get into the room. Everything else was good. Fridge was cold, and the TV worked perfectly.
It's new, so hopefully they can improve on it as they go.
