We are experienced cruisers (6-10), but our first time on RCCL. We specifically chose this cruise based upon the ports of call and to compare our prior cruise lines. We visited St. Maarten and the ABC (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) Islands. We travelled as a couple without children. Overall we felt this cruise had a laid back atmosphere and had a slightly older clientele than (Carnival, MSC, and NCL).

The embarkation went very smoothly as did the disembarkation. We had an interior room (8447) in an interior hallway (a great secret). There was very little traffic and noise from the hallway. Our room was well appointed with a desk and chair as well as a couch. The bed was put together to make a large king size bed. The mattress was a little hard but can be expected when placing beds together. The room showed signs of wear and tear, but did not impact our stay. The bathroom was small (as they all are) and it also showed some signs of wear. Everything worked well and was adequate for our stay. Our room steward always prompt to service our room morning and evening. We did need to ask for ice to be provided daily.

Our dining experience was great. We were a little disappointed with the lack of prime meats (fillet mignon was additional $) at dinner time. The food was prepared well and the service (Wilson) was an excellent waiter. The sea day lunch was a nice feature. They had a salad bar that they staff made for you and mixed on the spot. Other than that the food was great. We did eat at the Windjammer for breakfast and lunch. We found that if you were to walk around and see all of the options the food did have some variety but you had to really walk the entire dining hall to find it.

Port Reviews

San Juan

We simply took a taxi from the airport to the seaport 26.00 for 2 people and 4 bags was a little steep!

St. Maarten

Because we visited this port on 2 different itineraries and it was a Sunday, we knew that many of the places on the French side would be closed. So we decided to take a sea taxi into town where we shopped and walked around the port. Items on this island are reasonably priced!

Aruba

Extended time at this port (8am-11pm) allowed for us to rent a 4x4 jeep from Hertz (little expensive, $200 taxes and fees). However, we were free to drive anywhere we wanted to visit and see all of the island and return the jeep at the airport before 9:30pm. Although I never felt out of place driving around, street signage is not good and you should have a good sense of direction. We did visit the National Park. We were able to visit 2 different caves and walk around inside them. We also visited the Natural Bridge site, as well as the lighthouse. We wrapped up our day by stopping at Eagle beach at sunset and took a dip in the ocean. A great way to explore the Island on your own!
