Overall the experience was similar to a large (4500 plus passenger) ship. Although the Koningsdam is marketed as a "mid size" ship, the feel of the vessel was similar to a larger vessel. We encountered lines and lack of seating in various venues. Physically, at 985 feet overall the Koningsdam is certainly a large ship.
Having said that, cruising on HAL's newest ship was a pleasant experience. The interior decor is quite pleasing and the public spaces are subdued and tasteful.
Embarkation in Ft. Lauderdale was fairly smooth, but the line took about 40 minutes-much of it standing outside the terminal. Once aboard, however, our cabin was ready by the time we embarked at 1PM and our luggage arrived soon after.
Quite nice. Lots of storage and the largest and most comfortable shower we have found at sea. USB ports at bedside. Many films available at no charge in cabin. 7049 is forward so its a short run to the theater and just two decks up to the Lido deck, but quite a walk to the main dining room in the stern.
