This was our 26th cruise, 14th with Princess and the 2nd on the Royal. We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Ft Lauderdale. Hotel was clean, a little on the old side, convenient to the cruise port. Embarkation went quickly, cabin was ready when we checked in around 11:00 AM. Had lunch in Alfredo's to avoid congestion on the Lido.

Being we had been on the Royal in 2015, we were looking forward to a great trip. The ship is still beautiful, showing no signs of wear & tear. We immediately noticed more cut backs than last cruise. The one that bothered us both was the wine tasting event. We have always joined it and enjoyed immensely. Usually, after the tasting, we are offered a dessert wine in a small glass, which was ours to keep. Not this time - no glass. When asked about it we were told that wine prices had increased and they could no longer give away a tiny glass. The cost of a bottle of wine on ship is 4X the price in the states. What??? they can't afford a $2 glass??? The other thing was that when we returned from port to ship, there were no cold washcloths to refresh our face - too expensive?

Dining: We chose anytime dining, arriving around 5:30 and were always seated right away. Menu choices were slim, items sounding great on menu but when it arrived at table, didn't look like what we ordered. Food arrived luke warm, not hot as it should have been. After 3 disappointing dinners, we went to Lido for dinner and found a better selection of menu items, including veggies which lacked in dining room. Do you call 3 small slices of carrots the vegetable of the day? Food in Lido also lacked warmth, was afraid of food poisoning because of lack of heat. Also scrambled eggs for breakfast were always watery, and cold. One day they were sitting in a puddle of water, I turned them down. Princess needs to rearrange some items in Lido - if you take a piece of toast, you need to travel around to find the butter. Things are not arranged sensibly. Coffee in AM again was never hot, even if we self served. Servers in Lido were very pleasant, obviously liked their job. It was fun joking around with them.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BE

Cabin was on the small side, plenty of room for storage. Bathroom small, not fit for 2 people. Both cabin and bathroom were kept very clean. My only complaint was with the bedding - sheets were too short to cover me so I had to pull them out at the bottom and hope my feet didn't get cold. Otherwise, would book same room again.
