My first time on the Gem. This is a very nice ship. Just the right size. The food in Le Bistro is worth the price of the cruise. The NCL dance team was outstanding. Amazing choreography. Excellent, excellent service all around...from cabin to dining to bars. Very professional. I live in New York State, so it was nice not having to take a plane to a cruise port and not having to stay overnight in a hotel the night before. I just might take this same trip next year and I would stay in the same cabin. We were going to watch one of the pay-per-view movies, but never found the time. How can you spend ten days on a cruise ship, five of them at sea, and can't find two hours to watch a movie? Because there was always something to do. The time just flew. P.S. If you like ice wines, try the Vidal Inniskillin. Pricey, but delicious. And in the Japanese restaurant the green tea cake is really, really, good.

Cabin OG

I like noise. I live alone and have peace and quiet every day. So when I go on a trip I like to hear traffic and music and people dancing or having a good time at a bar. So cabin 4500 was perfect for me. It's the very first room on the bottom deck, right over the engine room and right next to the carpenter shop. We left New York City in some very choppy water so the waves would splash up into the porthole and swirl around like a front loading washing machine. It was so cool. The only time you know you're over the engine room is when they pulled into or out of a port. And the carpenter shop was hardly noticeable. Once in a while I'd hear something, but it was quite muffled. The shower in this room is perfect. A good size with a sliding glass door and good water pressure. The toilet is in it's own little cubbyhole which is kind of tight. There's plenty of storage. If noise bothers you you might want to go up one deck. But I really liked this room, and deck four is the deck they used to get us on and off the ship every time we stopped at a port, so it was nice not having to deal with elevators getting to or from a port visit.

San Juan

Did not take an excursion here. We were going to take the free hop-on-hop-off bus, but we waited an hour for it and it never came.
