It was the only Princess ship that spent 2 days in Panama (one day in Fuerte Amador so we could get on land and one day through the Canal). So I booked this ship. The canal experience was great, but I would never take a cruise on the Island Princess again, literally if it was free. Almost everything had lines for whatever you wanted to do. Theater? Get there 45-60 minutes early to get a seat because you never know how quickly the 633-seat theater would fill up. Dinner? The first night we tried to go to the main Bordeaux dining room for dinner about 5.30-6pm. Forget it. The line snaked through the atrium. That happened more than once on my 15-night cruise.
Same for the lounges and public areas. We had lots of sea days. We had an inside cabin so we didn't spend much time in it. But try to find a lounge (Wheelhouse, Explorers, etc) and it was next to impossible. Either they had events, auctions, trivia, bingo, etc in them or if on the rare occasion nothing was happening then you could find a seat. Same for the game tables in the library.
I had read about the renovations and added cabins on the Island after I booked but before I sailed. I thought it would be OK. WRONG!! If you want a relaxing cruise take another ship, simple as that.
Cabin was great and room steward was friendly but not very talkative. He did his job.
Just checked in early
OK place but had to go far to get to anything interesting.
Nice place to get out of the town and do something.
Nice place to experience the canal from land. Do NOT do a ship excursion here. The ship excursion left the visitor center as a ship was coming into the canal. Duh! The main reason you want to be there is to see a ship coming through. Fortunately we were on the independent HOHO bus.
Vulture taxi drivers and tour operators. Negotiate hard. Super hot and humid in this port.
Car rental was the best choice by far.
