  3. Celebrity Eclipse
This was the 2nd time we'd taken this 14-night Southern Caribbean cruise - we enjoyed it so much in 2015 we booked it for 2017. We were not disappointed the 2nd time. This was the first time for us to experience an overnight port (Curacao) and we truly enjoyed the relaxation as there was no rushing to "last call" on the ship. Curacao is a lovely island so 2 days was perfect. As for Celebrity - we love the level of service and we always enjoy the food and the passengers. We purchased the 4-night specialty restaurant package on board (larger discount than pre-booking) and we enjoyed 2 nights in Tuscan Grille, one dinner in Qsine and great French cuisine in Murano. The MDR always met our needs and expectations. With Select dining we pre-booked our dining time and then had the same waiter (Laurence who was great and had great stories) at the same table. We booked 3 private excursions and 3 ship excursions. The more cruises I take - the fewer ship excursions I book as the private excursions are much better quality and much better deal financially (just takes some pre-planning). One very large disappointment was the Celebrity Chef Market Excursion in St. Lucia. The Chef does not chose any of the food (vegetables, fruit, spices etc) and the fish market was a store with frozen fish. The cost is $139 and includes a dinner in Tuscan Grille but that should only be $45. The description of the event and the experience were completely opposite. I'm not a fan of Celebrity's theatre nightly entertainment - wish they offered higher end (Second City, Blue Man Group, Mamma Mia, Grease) on the odd night rather than mediocre entertainment every night. I truly appreciate the live entertainment (several music groups) found throughout the ship but I do not understand why all live entertainment stops in the lobby during the dinner/theatre shows. With a much larger crowd utilizing celebrity select dining times that means more people are in the bars at 6:30 and 8:30 - please keep live entertainment playing. Captain Leo and the crew were very visible and engaging on this cruise and Eddy as cruise director did a good job. Embarkation and disembarkation were both perfect even with special needs (wheelchair). Celebrity is still my favourite cruise line.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Sailboat Tour
Sunset Sail with Celebrity - excellent catamaran and crew and perfect sunset.

  • Snorkeling
5-star Tiami Catamaran. The vessel was 5-star as was the food and crew but the actual sites for snorkel/swim were very very poor. Over 200 other swimmers with 10 different vessels in the exact same area. Please choose an area with less people and DO NOT FEED/BAIT THE TURTLES. I understand excursion companies want the passengers to experience a swim with turtles but by feeding/baiting, the turtles become reliant on the food source and could be injured by the vessels and hoards of passengers all swimming at once.

best snorkel excursion ever - crew had so much experience - they even offered goggles that had prescription lens. Bonaire's marine habit is amazing.

We stayed in Fort Lauderdale at Hallendale Best Western Plus. Hotel was good. Unfortunately we landed at FLL on January 6, 2017 - 30 minutes after the deadly shooting at terminal #2 luggage carousel. We had to stay on our plane on the tarmac for 8 hours and be evacuated to Port Everglades which changed all our plans - there there was no time to enjoy Fort Lauderdale or Miami prior to January 8th ship departure.

Grey Islands Tours - Tour of Nevis was a highlight. Mr. Grey arranges all the details. Nevis should be on everyone's list of shore excursions.

  • St. Lucia
A complete waste of money. The excursion described is not the experience. The Chef offered no information (cooking or preparing information) when we went to the market viewing fruits/vegetables and spices. The excursion included a trip to Marigot Bay which is beautiful but has nothing to do with food or cooking. The fish market was a freezer with frozen fish. The dinner was in Tuscan Grille and although delicious, no food from St. Lucia was utilized and I learned nothing about preparing or cooking Caribbean food.
