First cruise (with husband & 8 year old son). The size of the ship was perfect. Big enough to explore but small enough to quickly get to anywhere we needed to go. Very quick tendering in Grand Cayman and embarkation and disembarkation were very efficient. I don't think that we would enjoy a larger ship but smaller ships geared for families seem to be a rarity these days,
The service on board was excellent and the ship was well run. Ralph, our Server at dinner, was a joy and we loved seeing him at the end of every day. My son only liked a few of the activities in the kids clubs and was not interested in spending a lot of time there. His favorite things were Foosball, Shuffleboard, Ping Pong, Basketball and room service. We certainly don't need to pay Disney prices to enjoy those! The stage shows were outstanding. The size and layout of our stateroom (6008) was great for us.
Castaway Cay was cancelled since high winds prevented the ship from docking. I knew there was a chance of this happening based on other reviews so I prepared my family for it in advance. Perhaps this stop would have made me a Disney Cruise convert but without it we struggled to find interesting things to do with another day at sea. Back to back days at sea are not for us.
We liked the forward location of our stateroom since there was very little hallway traffic passing by and it was nice and quiet. The large window was great and definitely added to our enjoyment of the room. We definitely would not want an interior room. The split bathrooms and fold down berths made the most of the space and we did not feel cramped in the room. Adequate storage for all our things but we travel light (carry on luggage only) and it was only a 5 night cruise. The beds were very comfortable and the complimentary toiletries good quality. Our room hostess was very kind and always available. The cast members work very hard to take good care of the guests.
