Just returned from our first Ocean Cruise with Viking exploring the West Indies and were very impressed. We chose Viking having been on some of their River Cruises. It was not too big, only 900 passengers and we felt that alternative cruise ships were not for us.
All of the staff we encountered were brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. Wherever we went It never felt crowded as there was so much space around the ship.
We ate in all of the restaurants but our favourite was the main Restaurant on Deck 2. As we were in a party of 12 we were given The Captains Table as it was the only table which sat 12, other than the private dining rooms in Manfredi's and The Chefs Table. This meant that we were well looked after by the same attentive staff - Jenny and Paul who were amazing. We had opted for the Silver Spirits Package and our Staterooms included the premium wine selections, which were very good. We found that the food in all of the restaurants was top quality but having enjoyed fantastic service and a fabulous selection of food in the Main Restaurant we were actually disappointed with the food in Manfredi's and at the Chef's Table. Afternoon tea in the Wintergarden was superb, as good as any of the top London hotels.
We chose a Deluxe Veranda stateroom and were fortunate to get Cabin 7012 on the Viking Star. The stateroom was well appointed and had everything we needed. We had sufficient wardrobe space but would have preferred more drawer space, but this was a minor niggle. The television was a good size, excellent choice of films and news channels and liked the Viking details of whats on and to be able to follow charges to room. The cabin was also conveniently situated on the same deck as the Explorers Lounge, Main Pool, World Cafe and the Aquavit Terrace. Our stateroom was lovely and quiet and we woke up to some amazing views from our cabin.
