The ship itinerary and naturalist, Mickey Live couldn't be beat on this fantastic voyage leaving from Valparaiso, Chile and sailing around Uruguay to Buenas Aieres, Argentina. Tours were well organized on the ship but overburdened on land with two ships in port often on the same day. When that occurred, which was frequently, guides could be inadequate and stops could be too crowded to view. The beautiful Raille Museum in Uruguay was just one of the many places where we had to rush in and out to let the next tour group in. The next day it would stand empty. There were also some tours where the guides remained in the bus while the guests walked on the own even though other tour guides were with their groups. Even with the problems the ports that we visited were exciting and the local people were wonderful.
Meals in the main dining room were not as good as we have had in the past and were never served hot, although service was good in the dining room and through out the ship. The shows were pretty good most evenings and were always musical or aerial due to the multilingual crowd. I felt that other musical entertainment was severely lacking in the common areas and bars.
The ship in the common areas was acceptable but the cabins were threadbare. They definitely needed updating. Still, there was an element of elegance remaining. I would do it again!
My balcony cabin midship deck 6 was a reasonable size to maneuver with good storage space. The shower was larger and designed better than most ships in that you could bend down and still be in the whole shower. The cabins were in need of serious updating though. Most importantly, life boats are stored on the outside of the deck. They don't obscure your views but they are within your view and the water. Additionally, they are used for tenders and as pilot boats so expect the noise from these at tender ports.
We stayed in both Santiago and Valparaiso but wished that we had spent more time in Valparaiso. It's a colorful and fun port city with many hills.
