We have been on 7 Carnival cruises and this is the first I would not give an excellent rating for. We were scheduled for an early check in after arriving in Miami at 8:00 am. They were very late (after 12) getting everyone off the ship so we waited almost 2 hours past our embarkation time.
We booked a spa room as a treat and found it lacking compared to other Carnival ships. The room was never cleaned completely, always something left that shouldn't have been there (sand, dirt, used bandaid *not ours) and this is the first cruise that they are only visiting rooms once a day so you had to choose morning or evening service instead of getting both. Room steward was friendly and always got what we asked for, but we always had to ask - even if it was a clean towel that should have been replaced at room cleaning.
The dining room staff were friendly but didn't go above and beyond (learning your name and preferences for drinks as we have had on other cruises) Food was good with a nice variety.
Great location other than neighbors staying in hall talking loudly every night (way past midnight). The room was comfortable but not as clean or as luxurious as you usually see in a spa level room.
We took a taxi (from outside of the gates) on a private tour of the area and to a local beach. Great experience and only $50 for the 2 of us.
We walked to the Fort and around Old San Juan easily and returned to the ship after enjoying some homemade ice cream rolls.
