We had been on Jewel of the Seas back in September when we sailed out of Civitavecchia on a 9 day cruise of the Western Mediterranean Sea. With 7 of us in two cabins including the Family Suite, it was memorable and great.
Thus when we saw that the Jewel of the Seas was departing out of San Juan, we decided to book it. Just my wife and me. Only this time, since I have a bad knee/hip, we booked a Handicap cabin with an Ocean View. So instead of being on the 10th Deck, we now were on the 3rd Deck.
We loved our cabin; it was intimate but 50% larger than a regular Ocean View cabin. And it was most apparent in the huge bathroom! Plus we were so close to the water that it afforded us a different view and experience of the ocean waves.
For someone like me, who has a bad knee/hip, this room was useful; especially the bathroom. It had a Torrential Shower head. You have to try it to understand what I'm describing. Plus there was also a hand held shower. The porthole as large; about 4 feet in diameter. The ceiling was low; about 7 feet. While up in 1086, in the Family Suite, it was 8 feet high. But we liked the cabin a lot. It represents great value IMHO.
