After a lot of research, I chose Ama Waterways because of their price, a lower cost (but better coverage) for trip insurance, better excursions, more on-board activities in the evenings and because they were rated highly on many websites. They were also the only cruise line I investigated that had a dedicated massage room on board. It was a great way to fill a cold afternoon on the river.
We had a room with an outside balcony, which was something we both really wanted. I chose the Rhine river cruise because we both enjoy German wine and I knew the scenery would be beautiful. The ship, AmaPrima, is very new and beautiful on the inside. Our cabin was just as spacious as a smaller hotel room and was more than adequate for the one week stay. The housekeeping staff is so wonderful - hospitable and friendly. We really enjoyed meeting all of them and they seem to have a lot of pride in their work.
The dining was fantastic. We felt that there were always plenty of choices for every meal. Fresh bread was made every morning and every meal was plated beautifully. There is a strong attention to detail that we loved - we felt very well taken care of. We celebrated our anniversary on board. The dining staff brought us a beautiful cream cake while they dimmed the lights and played "Unchained Melody", then all wished us a happy anniversary. The evening at the Chef's Table was a chance for a smaller, more intimate venue for dining and we loved it.
Loved our cabin. Great amenities and pretty roomy for a cruise line. Turn down service was beautiful and the in-room entertainment was nice as well.
We spent time on our own in Basel before boarding our ship. It is a lovely town full of interesting museums and friendly people. The food was fantastic.
Loved the town of Strasbourg. Very beautiful and busy.
Beautiful city for a city-center stroll. So much history.
