We have never taken a Norwegian cruise before and we will never take one again. We have cruised with Princess and Royal Caribbean. We were shocked by the constant nickel and diming on this cruise. So many things were an extra cost, including some items on the menu in the larger dinning rooms that on other cruise lines are free. They charged for the tour of the ship, that we have never paid for before on the other lines. The food was horrible and many of the crew was unfriendly. some of shore excursions were subpar with the type of transportation and tour guides. I know that you can't always trust what these "expert" tour guides tell you, but the people/companies that Norwegian uses were really bad. On one tour bus, the tour guide said we would not stop for bathroom breaks during the 3 hours ride to our destination. We had to use the bathroom on the bus. But we could not flush the toilet paper. I had to use the facility and it was so far beyond disgusting and unsanitary. They didn't even provide anything, that would be bio hazard safe, to put the used toilet paper in. And we were told this is the excursion company Norwegian has used for years.

There was some good. The balcony cabin was nice and we did appreciate the walk in shower. There were some very friendly and helpful crew members. I want to give a shout out to Osmand, in the Versailles dining room, who was very attentive regrading my special diet needs. We enjoyed a lot of the activities they provided. Unfortunately, the good did not even come close to outweighing the bad.

We are "destination" cruisers. We will take a cruise with the cruise line that goes where we want to go. We now feel limited because we will never consider a Norwegian cruise again. It's a shame.

Nice but the couch was as hard as a rock.

Port Reviews

Rome (Civitavecchia)

We flew in a couple of days early and did our own thing.

Naples

Pompeii - wonderful!

Taormina (Messina)

We arrived in Messina on a holiday so the town was very quite. Took a walk around the town and, by accident, came across the Piazza del Duomo with it's wonderful clock tower. We arrived in time to she the magical show.

Athens (Piraeus)

Did our own tour to the Parthenon.

Limassol

We rented a car and drove up the coast. Beautiful!

Haifa (Tel Aviv)

We rented a car and drove to Jerusalem, old city. The Israeli people were so rude. They honk their horns constantly and the lines on the road are just a suggestion to them. IT was a nightmare. We suggest taking an excursion instead of doing it yourself. The old city was very interesting and we fell in love with the Muslim Souk. One of the best parts of the trip.

Muscat

We feel in love with this city. Fun souk, the Sultan's palace and the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque are amazing. The port is very beautiful and the walk along the Corniche is great.

Dubai

We took a red bus tour. Dubai is a typical noisy, crowded big city with amazing high rise building architecture. It was cool just to be there.
