This is my 6th NCL cruise and 3rd on the Sky. I also have sailed on Holland America and Carnival. So, as you can see I'm "all over the place" when it comes to cruising. I've pretty much settled in on cruising NCL as their overall demographic suits my personality the best.
The Sky has become my "go to" ship when it comes to having a good time. I've seen a transformation over the last few years on the Sky - for the better. Since the Sky transitioned to an Open Bar cruise the demographic has changed. Here is how..... pre open bar the passengers were more or less typical cruisers albeit somewhat younger since it's a 4 day cruise. By typical I mean, it was all about the buffet. Now don't get me wrong the buffet is great but my last two Sky cruises had a much more active group of passengers. Pre open bar, there were scooters with 300 pound plus people everywhere, now I only saw two. This ship is all about having a good time, dancing singing, and yes having a few drinks.
Now for an interesting fact, although it is an open bar cruise there were less obnoxious drunks than on cruises where there is no open bar. Go figure! The staff seem well equipped to handle the silliness that accompanies the open bar crowd. I really must say the fellow passengers were great. I suppose when you sign on to this type of cruise you have certain expectations and tolerance for all that goes with an open bar cruise.
I preferentially choose inside cabins. I love the cave darkness. In a prior life my ex insisted on balocony rooms. Now I wouldn't take a balcony unless I were going to somewhere like Alaska. Think about it, how often are you really on your balcony...
