We chose this cruise based on the good deal we got, but from the moment of arrival, there was nothing that seemed "discounted" about our cruise (in a good way). We had the best time of our lives. The staff was friendly, personable, funny, charming, helpful, attentive and accommodating. The activities and theme nights were tons of fun. The ports were awesome: We chose to tour Key West on our own and had a beautiful day visiting historical sites and lounging on the beach as well as dining and shopping. In Nassau, we went to Atlantis and had a blast.
This was our first cruise, so we probably appreciated the small size of the empress more than some who are seasoned cruisers. It was perfect for us so we were not overwhelmed, but there was never a lack of things to do, even during our full day at sea.
The dining experience was amazing. Elegant and delicious food in both the main dining area and buffet, never a shortage of snacks and drinks available to us.
Our cabin was small, but adequate. We didn't spend a ton of time in our room, but we had plenty of space for our things and to get ready for the day.
Lots of things to do and see without taking an excursion, but be prepared to walk and take good shoes! We ended up walking ten miles that day! Beautiful beach at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park ($2.50 entrance fee per person if you walk in) and includes a tour of the Fort itself. We also visited the Little White House.
The rest of our day was spent wining and dining, shopping and exploring. The weather was amazing for late January. Couldn't have asked for a better day.
