This was the 1st time on the EPIC and won't be going back on it. This was a our 2nd "big NCL Ship", we did the Escape last year and we would take that any day over the EPIC. The boarding process was awful. We got to port and got checked in without any issues (CAS had no lines). Then we waited 2 hours to get onboard, they had to have any of the "2 week cruisers" disembark, go through customs, then reembark.. Apparently there were 3 people that didn't "follow directions" and it held up 4,000 from being able to get on the ship... The layout of ship in general was "different". Most of the staff was just "ok" except for Gene Bee in the Atrium Coffee bar along with the guys at H20 spice. We did like that area of the ship (adults only) for the most part anyways except it was also one of the few places for people to smoke cigars.
The balcony was nice and big however we didn't have a lounged chair, only two regular chairs. Our room stewardess was the most unfriendly we've ever had on any NCL cruise.
We didn't mind the separate shower/sink/toilet area like some people do.
A very nice day at the beach and snorkeling. Would have been awesome if we were on a "smaller ship" so it would have been easier to find chairs together.
We went with Garfield Diving and very disappointed with the outcome. We had 10 of us Divers and Snorkelers in a very small boat in extremely rough seas (8-10 ft). I'll be doing a separate negative review on them.
We didn't take a NCL excursion, we booked a dive/snorkel trip with DiveTech and it was very enjoyable. The staff was very attentive to what we wanted to do as a group (12). We dove and snorkeled the KitteWake (which was awesome). Because it was windy we didn't go out to any "good reefs", the reef life wasn't the best. But because we wanted to go together I'm sure that had something to do with it.
We didn't take any shore excursions however we did walk the port, drink the free tequila and got a very good deal on a "turtle necklace" for my wife.
Embarkment was a joke, the fact that they had to have all the "2 week cruisers" exit the ship before we could embark. There were apparently 3 people that wouldn't follow directions and it kept the 4,000 of us from getting onboard.
