My wife and I finally retired and decided in 2014 to plan our first cruise. We had heard so many wonderful reviews of Viking River cruises from many of our friends who had retired also. When Viking announced they were going to do ocean cruises, we decide to jump in on the first year of Viking Star. We did Venice to Barcelona, 13 days, in October 2015 and fell in love with the whole experience. 900 passengers was the right size for us. We loved our Veranda cabin with its outdoor seating and table. The whole cruise exceeded our expectations. In 2016 we got a notice that the Viking Star was doing a British West Indies 11 day cruise in and out of San Juan, so we booked it. We got the same ship and the same room as we had in 2015. It was another outstanding cruise! We are planning a River Cruise for 2018 and can't wait to enjoy the Viking hospitality and quality once again.
We spent two days in our embarkation city on both cruises and highly recommend doing that. Old San Juan was a very pleasant surprise and an easy port for Customs if you are a US citizen. Food on board is outstanding at all venues. Viking does not nickel and dime you for anything. We did 50% of our excursions upgraded and the rest were provided at no charge. Be sure to use the facilities of the spa pool and facilities.
